Dr. Tara Stoop is a Naturopathic Doctor licensed in the state of California.  She is the founder of Primary Naturopathic, an affiliate of Berkeley Naturopathic Medical Group.  She received her Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from the esteemed Bastyr University in Seattle, Washington after obtaining her Bachelors degree from UC Berkeley with a double major in Molecular & Cell Biology and Integrative Biology.  Dr. Tara’s practice at Berkeley Naturopathic Medical Group is a family practice with a special interest in pediatrics, women’s health and chronic disease.  She utilizes nutrition, nutritional supplements, botanical medicine, homeopathy and other natural therapies.

Pediatrics
The gentle yet effective treatments employed by Dr. Tara are especially suited to the delicate systems of children.  Well-child exams are comprehensive with time spent discussing important issues such as the pros and cons of vaccinations, how to best feed your child and how to help them get the sleep they need.  In addition to this focus on prevention, Dr. Tara is knowledgeable about treating childhood diseases, including asthma, eczema, ear infections, colds & flu, gastrointestinal problems, food allergies and a host of others.  While she makes sure that your child’s symptoms are addressed, her main emphasis is on finding and addressing the underlying cause of the problem.

Chronic Disease
With chronic diseases such as Type 2 Diabetes and High Blood Pressure becoming so prevalent in our modern society, Dr. Tara is thankful to have such an effective set of tools to use in treating these concerns.  The philosophy and therapies of Naturopathic Medicine are ideally suited to address chronic problems and while Dr. Tara does her part in providing natural therapies and support, the most important work is done by the patients in these cases. Often, some of the strongest partnerships between Dr. Tara and her patients are formed when dealing with chronic disease because of the hard work required to alter habits that are obstacles to health and optimal wellness.

Women’s Health
Dr. Tara offers annual exams as well as addressing women’s acute and chronic health concerns.  She works with gynecologic concerns such as abnormal paps, endometriosis and fibroids; hormonal concerns such as PMS, menopause and thyroid problems and chronic health concerns such as osteoporosis, fatigue and stress.  She has experience with prenatal concerns such as morning sickness and nutritional needs during pregnancy, and new mom issues such as breastfeeding difficulties and postpartum depression.  She is knowledgeable about the safety of botanical medicine and other natural therapies during pregnancy and lactation.

Dr. Tara is a member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians and the California Naturopathic Doctors Association.  She had her first child at home in August 2008.  She looks forward to having more children with her husband and constant companion of 13 years.
