Green Smoothie

Green smoothies can be a life-changing way to get loads of nutrients quickly and deliciously. Once you get the hang of making them and stocking the right ingredients, you’ll have a delicious glass of energy in your hand in about 5 minutes.

Ingredients:
-1 cup washed greens (Spinach, spring mix, lettuce, kale, chard, cabbage, etc.)
-1 cup fruit (Banana, avocado, berries, whatever is in season)
-1-2 scoops of protein powder
-Water (or coconut water, unsweetened nut milk, or cooled green tea) to cover.
-Add “superfoods” (optional, see below)

Mx in a blender and enjoy!

    Some examples of superfoods:

  • Soaked nuts, or nut butters (except peanut)
  • Ground flax, sesame or pumpkin seeds (great for hormone balancing)
  • Acai powder
  • Raw cacao
  • Goji berries
  • Ginger
  • Turmeric
  • Raw Maca
  • Tips:

  • NEVER blend apple seeds, apricot, cherry, plum or peach pits. They are toxic.
  • If you are new to green smoothies, start with milder-tasting greens like spinach. As you progress, you will enjoy the darker greens even more as you get the benefit from their extracted nutrients.
  • If you have powerful blender with a “liquefy” setting, this will allow you to use large amounts of tougher greens like kale and collards, as well as use nuts and seeds without soaking them.
  • Some like their smoothies cool or cold. If you do, use frozen fruit in your smoothie.
  • Fruitsellers at farmers markets sometimes have free or deeply discounted fruit that is a bit overripe or bruised. These are great for smoothies! Stock up by rinsing, removing the pits and freezing.
